4 Helpful Tips to Increase Sales Using Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Other Social Media Platforms

Most of the businesses are now online to reach new and existing customers easily and efficiently; however, these social media platforms are often not being maximized to its fullest potential. Why? Because more likely than not, many small business owners are not correctly using the platform in the way it is built in order to reach the specific audience that is using that platform.

Currently, there are four primarily generations using social media: Baby Boomers, Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z (Gen Z is the current upcoming generation). Each generation uses social media differently and are finding new ways to connect to one another using these platforms, but the fact remains — social media is here to stay.

In this post, the four helpful tips that we are giving work best with these three social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. The other platforms have other methods of posting besides pictures and text, but the thought behind each tip transcends to all social media platforms.

With this in mind, here are four helpful tips to increase sales with social media.

1. Increase sales by being visually appealing

Social media is a feast for the eyes. Photos and videos always get more engagements and reactions. One study found that on Facebook, photos get 53% more likes, 104% more comments and 84% more click-throughs.

Pro tip:

Photos must be visually appealing. This can be sharp and crisp and full of color. Most photos get high engagements are those that have bright blue and bright green on it.

2. Increase sales by being timely with your posts

Know your audience’s online behavior. Every Facebook Business has its own popular hours. It will show you the days and times of your Fan’s online presence. You can maximize the popular hours by posting during peak hours to get higher reach and engagement. 

Instagram also keeps track of your followers’ behaviors through Instagram Insights. It will show how your content performs with your audience. There are insights for specific posts and stories you’ve created and you can see how each performed and how people engaged with them. You can access Insights in the Instagram app from your Profile.

LinkedIn is a haven for headhunters and jobseekers. This is the “professional” version of Facebook where everyone uses their real name on their Profile, showing a good profile photo that makes any employer click your account. Best days to post are Wednesday and Thursdays while Sunday is the worst day. 

Best time to post is every Wednesday from 8:00 to 10:00 A.M. and noon time; every Thursday at 9 A.M. and between 1:00 to 2:00 P.M.; and Friday at 9:00 A.M.

3. Increase sales by being consistent with your posts.

The best way to increase sales with your posts is to keep showing up in a consistent way! Most social media platforms have algorithms that control what posts people see and which post they don’t. The algorithm is almost impossible to nail down, but we’ve learned over the years that the more you post, you the greater the chances that a follower will see your posts.

One thing to keep in mind is to make sure that you’re consistent with your posting, but mix up the style of posts that you do.

Gary Vaynerchuk (a.k.a., Gary V) wrote a book in 2013 called Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook: How to Tell Your Story in a Noisy Social World. In his book, Gary V breaks down each social media platform but the main takeaway from this book is that you cannot be selling in every post. People want value added to their life. If you add value to your customers life, they will be more likely to buy from you when the time comes for you to sell!

4. Increase sales by being action-oriented.

When it comes time to sell, you need to have a crystal clear CALL TO ACTION (CTA). If you want to sell a product, make sure you link directly to the product. If you want your customers to fill out a specific contact form to download a PDF, make sure you directly link to that contact form.

If your CTAs simply take the customer to the homepage on the website or to a broken link, you can be sure that the customer will immediately click off of your page, which results in losing a sale and potential routine customer.

Two pro tips:

  1. On Instagram, use a service like LinkTree to handle your outbound links. Because Instagram only lets you have one link in your bio, LinkTree lets you have multiple links on a separate page. Most people are also familiar with LinkTree so your customers will not be nervous to visit your Linktree.
  2. You can both shortern and track your outbound links by using a service like Bitly. You can’t know if your CTAs are successful if you don’t know if people are taking action.
